The Project

The Charter Schools Programme is a Third Education Model within the emirate of Abu Dhabi and is a unique partnership between the public and private sectors. This model is dedicated to public school students within Abu Dhabi and will offer an American based curriculum to kindergarten and cycle one students. Abdulla Bin Otaiba school is one of 13 schools that we were tasked with refurbishing in the summer of 2019. The refurbishment consisted of full redecoration of all schools, HSE upgrades and signage works; all of which was undertaken at short notice within the school vacation period.

Our Appointment

We were appointed as project and cost managers in June 2019. This appointment came at short notice and the works were required to be completed during the school’s summer break period. We organized the refurbished nine schools during this time. We adopted a very flexible approach to this unique project. Whilst initially engaged as a traditional project and commercial management team, it soon became clear that creative thinking was required to deliver the refurbishment programme on budget and within the required timeline.

The Benefit

Our unique and bespoke approach to deliver on our client’s ambitions meant that we were able to recognize very quickly how we could assist the wider client organization. We adapted our approach and acted as construction managers throughout the project’s lifecycle. This meant that we not only had a holistic overview, but were ultimately responsible for the procurement, management, and payment of all work packages. This greatly assisted the overall programme and the ability of our client to develop this critical programme for education in Abu Dhabi. Due to our immediate impact and success an additional four schools were added to our remit.
