The Project

Capital Gate, a Guinness World Records-certified structure which inclines a record-breaking 18 degrees, houses the Hyatt hotel and has over 16,000 sqm of usable office space. One of the tallest buildings in the capital city, the hotel itself has 189 modern rooms and suites from level 18 – 33. Level 18 occupies the main dining area with a Show Kitchen, coffee and wine bars, private dining rooms and a balcony terrace. A spa and cantilevered pool bar are located on the floor above with all back-of-house support kitchens and dish washing facilities located between Level 18, ground floor and basement levels.

Our Appointment

Through initial authority inspections, concerns were raised over the Food & Beverage areas compliance with Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA), Municipality (ADM), Distribution Co. (ADDC) and Civil Defense (ADCD). In order to redevelop the F&B strategy, we were introduced by the Developer (ADNEC) and novated to the Main Contractor Habtoor Leighton Group (HLG) to undertake a thorough review and forward planning to rectify compliance breaches. We undertook a detailed review of the architectural and MEP design, existing installations and the current procurement plan to ensure that the authority approvals process would be seamlessly implemented.

The Benefit

ADNEC’s ultimate goal was to hand over a fully compliant and approved “ready to operate” hotel by December 2011. Due to our intervention and realignment of strategies, the client met their target completion date despite the initial setback and subsequent implementation of numerous “corrections” recommended by our team and then delivered by us. Food Safety compliance is paramount to every F&B operator’s business, and with regular authority inspections taking place throughout a business’ lifespan, ensuring the built environment meets current and future business objectives is critical to the current success and future operating resilience.
