The Project

Komatsu Middle East (KME) required full design and build support for its new headquarters in the Middle East based in JAFZA. The design and build project had the unusual challenge of not having a design consultant appointed. We managed the construction of a new 17,000 square meter, warehouse, and a G+1 Executive Office block with demonstration area and training facility. The warehouse facilities’ 16-meter high narrow aisle racking adds 20,000 pallet spaces to KME’s Dubai capacity. The training facility is coupled with a full demonstration area and viewing gallery where KME can demonstrate the capabilities of their fleet of equipment.

Our Appointment

We were appointed in July of 2017, at the beginning of the pre development and design phase of the project. Working extensively with the project appointed consultant, the local architect, and MEP design team we helped to establish the brief against the client’s requirements and manage the design development and tender. Despite not having a design consultant on board, our experience in industrial facilities in the region enabled a successful delivery that met both authority and end user requirements while still delivering against project programs and budgets. We maintained communication with all the involved stakeholders as well as the Japanese team based in the global headquarters in Japan.

The Benefit

Because we took the time to fully understand the requirement, and made the additional effort to visit existing facilities in Ishikawa and Osaka, the project was completed to the required impeccable Japanese standards. We received considerable client praise for our proficient execution of the requirements and ability to work within budget parameters and timeline. We have been asked to assist with other projects for Komatsu resulting from our handling of this new facility and headquarters. The client has a fully operational training facility for its sizable construction vehicle portfolio serving clients throughout the region with live training demonstrations and full-service customer care capabilities.
