The Project

Southern Sun in Abu Dhabi is a four-star deluxe hotel offering 353 rooms for both business and leisure travelers. The hotel adds to the mid-market hotel landscape of the Emirate. Southern Sun hotel would have a selection of bars and restaurants with a range of culinary offerings from the Middle East, Japan and South Africa. The project required a successful delivery of fully compliant food and beverage front of-house and back-of-house areas, which is paramount to the hotel operations. Although a four-star project, the hotel targeted a deluxe ambience and required finishing and fit out to complement the clean look and feel it desired.

Our Appointment

AEDAS Architects seconded the project management services of our team to ensure the successful delivery of all their F&B-related facilities. By identifying key areas of food safety and fire and life safety non compliance during the detailed design phase and prior to procurement, we enabled corrective measures to be put in place avoiding the unnecessary costs of abortive works. Understanding the technical and regulatory requirements for food and beverage works ensured that we were able to manage proactively and ensure compliance concurrently to the works being undertaken. We were able to save time and cost due to our ability to work in parallel to realigning the programme where necessary.

The Benefit

Due to our thorough check of the works in accordance with requirements we were able to fix non-compliance issues prior to work implementation, which otherwise would have amounted to hefty delays. Full compliance with AD Food Control Authority, AD Distribution Co. and AD Civil Defence was successfully obtained in April 2014 avoiding any delay to the project programme. With the reassurance that all issues were picked up by us at the early stages and project risks mitigated, this allowed the hotel operator to proceed with their marketing campaign, staff training and operational set-up as planned.
